How to make your own sprouts & why you’d want to

You can grow your own super food that has 50 times more cancer- fighting power than regular broccoli in your home with almost no equipment. I was intrigued by the idea of sprouting awhile ago but was intimidated by the idea. Once I started reading how beneficial broccoli sprouts are and how truly simple it is to do I decided to give it a try and I’m so glad I did.

I am currently still breastfeeding our daughter and am always looking for ways to support my health, and increase the nutrients in breast milk to pass onto her. I remembered awhile back when I did a parasite cleanse, an ingredient in the toxin binder was broccoli sprouts. There is a reason for that and its because they pack a powerful nutrient punch.

They are an incredible source of vitamins and minerals. They contain sulforaphane which is a potent anti-oxident and detoxifier. They boost the immune system and are anti-inflammatory which has its own host of benefits to the body including helping arthritis and brain inflammation. That is only naming a few of the many perks of consuming broccoli sprouts.

I love the taste of the broccoli sprouts and top them on everything throughout the day. They have a bit of a kick to them so I’ve tried adding to smoothies and I noticed a little aftertaste but my toddler did not :)

Ingredients/Supplies:

Broccoli sprouts

Purified water* (important not to use tap water because it could be contaminated)

Wide mouth quart size mason jar with a screen lid

Directions:

Add 2 TBPS into you mason jar and fill jar halfway with filtered water.

Set jar into a dark and dry spot such as right inside a cabinet.

The next morning take out and drain water. While keeping the sprouting lid on fill jar with clean filtered water. Swish around to get all sprouts and drain. Repeat once more.

Move the jar around so the seeds disperse along the wall of the mason jar (helps them to dry and not sit in a clump)

Put mason jar upside down at an angle (I use a big mug and set my jar tilted upside down in it). That allows the water to drain out into the cup.

Repeat the same process in the evening.

Continue rinsing twice and draining, once in the morning and once in the evening for about 5 days.

On day 4 set out on the counter after the morning rinse in indirect sunlight. Rinse the same way that evening.

Once ready to harvest, dump out in big bowl and fill with water. Do one last big rinse and wash and scoop out any unsprouted seed. Drain and set out to fully dry before storing.

Video Tutorial:

This video explains the process and makes it very easy to understand. This may look like a lot of steps but once you are doing it, its pretty simple just repetitious.
